#Queenie by Kimberly Chambers @kimbochambers @fictionpubteam @HarperCollinsUK

I am super excited to share my review with you today for Queenie by Kimberley Chambers

For young Queenie, life in the backstreets of Whitechapel was a lesson in survival – Hitler’s bombs hit those with nothing the hardest. When danger strikes close to home, Queenie finds an ally in Mrs O’Leary, whose two sons are the kingpins of the East End. But while the O’Learys are the light in Queenie’s life, fate has a different path in store.
Now married to the useless Albie Butler, Queenie is raising her children to fight their own battles. If the O’Learys taught her anything, it was that surviving meant doing whatever you had to, no questions asked, and family always comes first. The Butler boys will make sure their mother’s name becomes East End legend.

My Thoughts

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was to read this book after hearing this was Kimberlys next novel. It has been three years since we last had a taste of the Butlers. A series that we have all come to know and love. In this story we are transported back in time to where it all began with Queenie telling her story. And OMFG what a story it is!

It was certainly worth the worth the wait I can assure you of that, this is Kimberly’s best book it date. It has left me totally blown away by how incredibly good it is.

Readers of the Butlers will know Queenie, but for those of you that dont this is a brilliant place to start.

I was hooked right from the very first page and read this in two sittings, Queenie is so addictive and told in four parts where we follow her story over three different decades. From the war to the swinging sixties. Kimberly has clearly done a lot of research for this book. Making me feel right there living and breathing with the fascinating description. It is full of characters, that jump out of the pages. I could actually hear there accents.

Throughout the story ee learn how the family was created and we also learn how the characters became who they are in the series. Vinny is just one example.

Queenie is full of grit lit which you expect to find in a gang land novel. But what I love it that it also has plenty of humour woven in. Which had me LOL on train! Boy did I get some funny looks. There are also some emotional scenes that pull on your heart strings. Which actually made me cry! YES me crying what the Feck is that all about! Feeling the emotion that Kimberly brings to this story is so real and yet so heartbreaking with some of the things she goes through. Making this gripping and on the edge of your sit reading.

Did I mention the ending….WOW FECKING WOW I so wasn’t expecting that. A proper OMG moment.

I loved everything about this book and I am left gutted that I have finished it. Leaving me with a total book hangover. I have no idea what to read next. Queenie is a very powerful story that just got me every way possible.

I cannot recommend this book enough giving it all the stars
