When single mum Joanna hears a rumour at the school gates, she never intends to pass it on. But one casual comment leads to another and now there’s no going back.
Rumour has it that a notorious child killer is living under a new identity, in the small town of Flinstead-on-Sea.
Sally McGowan was just ten years old when she stabbed little Robbie Harris to death forty-eight years ago. No photos of her exist since her release as a young woman.
So who is the supposedly reformed killer who now lives among them? How dangerous can one rumour become? And how far will Joanna go to protect her loved ones from harm, when she realizes what it is she’s unleashed?
Not only only is this a a brilliant story but it also a brilliant audio I am blow away by the fact that this is the authors debut novel. Lesley is a very talented writer it felt like she had been writing for years.
Not forgetting the narrator who has has brought the characters to life and made it sound so real. I actually felt like I was part of the story. With a story that all starts with a rumour at the school gates. I remember those days well, which we called them the gates from hell. Parents standing there gossiping first thing in the morning. The author takes this FACT and puts her on spin on things.
With Joanna, who hears a rumour at her school gates which ends up in Chinese whispers, has these things do…. but OMG what a story. The Rumour is utterly addictive and intriguing, with plenty of twists and turns. Not forgetting the creepiness of it all.
Telling the story of how dangerous a little rumour can become. and trust me this is one very dangerous rumour and one very clever story.
I cannot recommend this book/audio enough giving it all the stars
